What's on the Slab?

Check here for Ghoul Friday news. From show announcements to new how-to projects, this is where I list what's not to be missed.

FanExpo is Here! Sept. 3-6, 2015

Find me Labour Day Weekend, Thursday to Sunday, at FanExpo.

As always, I will be in Artist Alley, Table AA62 towards the southeast corner of the South Building at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

If you are a local who normally visits me at shows, please note I will regrettably NOT be vending at the Bazaar of the Bizarre (for the first time in several years) because I will be traveling Thanksgiving weekend like all the other crazy Canadians lined up at airports and dashing down highways. I hope to return in 2016 if the show will have me.

I will update here with news of any other shows this Halloween season, or if I decide to simply post online sales for the remainder of 2015. Regardless, here's to an exciting, mind-melting four days with an anticipated 140,000 attendees.

Aug 22-25th 2013: FANEXPO/Festival of Fear

It's almost time to be part of the insanity that takes place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre event August, and once again I'll be there.

Track me down in Artist Alley at table A62. That's the back left corner of the South building. Might be more confusing this year, since they are using both the North and South building for the convention. North building will have celebrities and the new...sports section...*blank stare*...and the south building will have all the cool stuff. Er, I should say, the south building will have Artist Alley, Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear, Science Fiction, Comics and Anime sections.

Hope to see you there! Never been? Read on...

"Now entering its 19th year, Fan Expo Canada showcases over 900 exhibitors and sprawls over 750,000 square feet of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre!Considered by many to be the 'Comic Con' of Canada, Fan Expo Canada™ humbly began as the Canadian National Comic Book Expo in 1995. Growing from one genre with 1500 fans to a multifaceted show connecting over 90,000 fans, Fan Expo Canada™ is currently the 3rd largest pop culture event in North America!"

To see all the fun that's happening, check out the official FanExpo website.

And plan ahead! If you're not getting a weekend pass (even if you are), here's some things that might help you plan your visit.

1) Buy your tickets ahead of time.

2) Saturday is insane. I don't leave my table on Saturday if I don't have to because the crowds are shoulder to shoulder packed. So if you aren't coming for a workshop, or need to be there for a certain celebrity time slot, I suggest coming on one of the other days.

3) If you like art and, like me, your favourite section is Artist Alley, don't wait until Sunday afternoon to pick up a one-of-a-kind piece. I can't count the amount of times I've heard people lament missing out on an item at my table or another artist's table. Often, these folk return the following year, on the first day, and head straight to Artist Alley saying things like "I missed out on (blank) last year and I was determined to come here first so I could get my pick!". (By the way, I love those people. Those people are aces).

Also, if you really DO love Artist Alley, then spend your money there, even if it's only $10. People don't realize it, but a number of folks who rent a table in Artist Alley lose money at the event. So far *touch wood* I've done well and I am so appreciative of the faithful collectors who brave the insanity and find me in the chaos. So if you see an artist that you dig, and you want them to return next year, buy something. Anything. Support local art!
